Consecutive Interpretation

This kind of interpretation does not need any special equipment or complex planning. In this the interpreter listens to few sentences of a speech for five to ten minutes, (now a days, more than 10 minutes is considered long, particularly since audiences find it difficult to sit through too long speeches they can’t understand), then renders the syntactic and semantic meaning of the spoken sentences into the language of target audience, then again pauses to listen to next few sentences requiring interpretation.

This type of interpretation may be one-way, i.e. rendering message from source language of speaker into the target language of a group of audience or it may be a two way process wherein a dialogue has to be facilitated and interpreted between/ amongst two speakers or group of speakers.
